Has anyone had any problems using snus? Using snus carries the risk of becoming ill in some way, the same as with all tobacco products. But has anyone here had any issues?

None myself and none that I've read or heard from others.

Although I have read that because of the higher pH (less acid than normal) in the mouth your teeth and gums' health IMPROVES. On the german http://www.snus-forum.de/ someone said his dentist complimented him on his very good oral health.

Bad things that can happen.

I think first of all: the typical things related to nicotine. Then of course cancer in the mouth. Searching a lot for illnesses, I have never seen a real relationship, nothing is really 100% (like everywhere i guess).

Perhaps it is because, just a minority of people do snus, i think.

Over all I would never give up a good snus.

I had a conversation with a nice lady from Australian customs who has a brother living in Sweden and so was aware of SNUS and what it is. She mentioned that portion SNUS has traces of fibreglass in it. Anyone know if this is true and any more info on it?

Oh god here we go AGAIN...
Shards of glass and/or fragments/crushed glass/powdered glass...you name it, it's been rumored before.

This myth seems to have originated when non-swedes first saw snus and saw some glistening *SALT* crystals in it. Since snus burns a little under the lip these people mistook that as a confirmation of their suspicion; thinking it was the glass that was cutting into their gums.

Once and for all: THERE IS NO GLASS IN SNUS.
Now go and spread the truth.

The SAME thing as tea bags. If I'm not mistaken it's called (popularly) Acetate.

(Ofcourse, if you had some chemistry at school you'll know that can't be the whole, real name but anyways... I dunno acetate of WHAT it is exactly.)
I think cigarette filters are also made of that.

Why? You thought it was fiber-glass? ROFL@! Laughing

As a young kid I once laid on a boat that had been freshly fiber-glassed.
I don't think anyone would WANT to go through the HELLISH pain of having that in their mouth.

so if you're out of snus just take a tea bag (I prefer indian tea) an put it into your lip

I suspect one of the reasons Snus has been suggested as containing glass, fibreglass or whatever is, in addition to the possible salt crystals, being tobacco it naturally has a gritty ingredient. I don't know what this is, but as a previous cigarette smoker who rolled his own I often found a gritty texture within this smoking tobacco. It's probably common to all tobacco products.

Swedish Snus is subject to food product legislation (because you put it in your mouth) and with their very high standards, you're not going to get fibreglass or glass shards etc in your food. it's a non-starter.

to come back to the initial question:

Symptoms that may occur when overdoing Snus have their main focus on the gastrointestinal tract, at least that's my experience. a little nausea and diarrhoea, stuff like that. Nicotine may also cause dizziness, may be experienced as a bad side effect by those who don't just love the feeling Smile

I felt nauseaus the other day with General. The big(ger) pouch ruined me for about 30 minutes!

I think they might used glass in the snus way back in the days! Like long before our days. It might be fiction, but that's what I've heard. So that could be a reason why so many belive that snus actually contains glass. It's not true!

Dosen`t snus contain glass fiber?

Snus is not as bad as smoking, smoking kills, snus dosen`t. Or maybe if you get cancer. But the odds for cancer is much smaller then the odds for getting it with smoking.
